‘The Simpsons’ Star Matt Groening to Host Fox News Debate: ‘I’m a Conservative’

FOX News has hired former Fox News host Matt Groenstien to moderate a three-hour debate between Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Groening, who has hosted the network’s coverage of Trump and other GOP hopefuls, is scheduled to appear on the network from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with a live stream of the debate being released on the Fox News YouTube channel at 11:30p.m..
The debate will be moderated by the veteran conservative pundit and Trump surrogate, Tucker Carlson, and will take place at the Fox Sports studio in Burbank, California, according to a news release.
The debate is the third scheduled for the network this fall, following a debate with Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson in August and a debate between Green Party nominee Jill Stein and Republican nominee Donald Trumps rival Bernie Sanders in December.
Groensten is known for his scathing commentary on politics and pop culture, and he has previously served as a guest host for the Fox program, “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” as well as Fox News’ “The Five,” as a contributor.
Groener has hosted several Trump campaign events and events with Trump and his family, including Trump’s swearing-in ceremony on January 20, 2016, and his inauguration as president in January.
Groeners latest appearance on Fox News came just one day after the network announced that it would host a debate for Clinton and Trump.
The candidates are expected to appear at 9 p.c. on Thursday night, as well.
“Matt is a proven leader, who is not afraid to voice his views and debate the issues with guests that he knows are important,” Fox News Senior Executive Vice President of News and Current Affairs Ed Henry said in a statement.
“He is one of the most compelling voices in television right now, and this debate will provide viewers with the opportunity to hear from the man who has built one of Fox’s most iconic brands.”
Groening was also a contributor to “The View,” a show on CNN, which aired during the 2016 presidential election, and was also an anchor and writer on “The Kelly File,” which ran from 2006 to 2009.
He also appeared on the “Walking Dead” spinoff “The Walking Dead,” and hosted the NBC “Saturday Night Live” sketch series “The Mayor” in 2012.
Groens latest appearance came just days after Trump said he was not ready to endorse Clinton, calling her the “most dishonest person.”
Groens comments came after he told Fox News on Tuesday that he was “not ready” to endorse the presumptive Democratic nominee, saying she is “the most dishonest person in the history of politics.”
Trump was not at Fox News for the debate, and did not address the issue during his appearance on the show.
