What is the state of Israel’s relations with Palestinians?
- by admin
The current state of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process is a complex one.
The Israeli-led coalition government has made the peace process a top priority and has implemented several measures aimed at strengthening ties with Palestinians.
However, there is growing concern that the government is moving away from the process, especially following recent actions such as the Israeli military’s assassination of three Palestinian activists.
The recent spate of killings of activists has led to a sharp deterioration in the Israeli government’s stance on the Palestinian-led peace process.
In recent weeks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been publicly condemning the attacks, while the Israeli public has voiced its displeasure with the government’s handling of the situation.
On Thursday, Israeli parliamentarians voted in favor of a resolution condemning the recent killings and asking for a full investigation into the circumstances leading up to them.
The bill passed by a margin of 52 to 46.
On Sunday, Israeli media reported that Netanyahu had requested that the Israeli Security Agency detain four of the attackers, including the man who carried out the attack, before the bodies were released to relatives.
The measure was rejected by Israeli legislators.
The government has also announced plans to revoke the status of the Palestinian Authority (PA) from recognition, making it a pariah state within the international community.
Netanyahu’s comments have sparked condemnation from the United Nations, which said in a statement that the legislation “violates international law and threatens to undermine the international legal process in which Palestinians are engaged.”
The U.N. special rapporteur on human rights, Richard Falk, called for an independent investigation into Israel’s policies and said that Israel’s actions “do not meet international standards.”
The Israeli government has denied any involvement in the murders and the prime minister has also claimed that the attack was not an act of terrorism.
On Friday, Israeli officials said that the men killed in the attack were members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), and that the two attackers had been arrested by the Israeli army.
The attack took place on May 3, 2017.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, PFLP member Mohammad Odeh said that he was the target of the attack because of his “anti-Israel rhetoric.”
He said that if his arrest were not enough, he would be shot to death.
The video of the shooting was released by Al Jazeera.
Odeh has said that his brother was the man killed, and that he had told his family about the incident a week before it took place.
The men’s mother, Suha Odehs, told Al Jazeera that her son was killed by Israeli forces.
She added that her brother was a supporter of the PFLM and that she has no doubt that he would have been killed.
“I do not trust that Israel will not use these murders to legitimise its policies against Palestinians and their struggle,” she said.
A recent report from Al Jazeera found that Israel has killed more than 6,000 Palestinians since 1967, most of them civilians.
Palestinian children are more than twice as likely to be killed than Israeli children.
